Numerals (1, 2,3,4,5,6, 7, 8, 9, 0) are relatively recent inventions. 2000 years ago, when the New Testament was being written, there were no numerals. When they wanted to write down numbers, they had to go\, \\, \\\, \\\\,etc, or else use letters to represent numbers. For example, we could make the letter A equal 1, B - 2, C - 3, D - 4, etc, Then the numerical value.of the name Ada would be l+4+1=6
This is the way Roman numerals work. The letter I equals one, V=5,
X=l0, L=50, C=l00, D=500 and M=1000. Each language would use its.own
alphabet as numerals in a similar manner.So we see that 666 or 616, is the numerical value of someone’s
name.
Since each language had its own system of number/letter equivalents, we will have to decide in what language the Anti-christ’s name is to be figured.

based on these few verses. Let us look .at them ourselves and try
and make some sense out of them.
What is the Mark of the Beast all about?
To understand the true meaning of the Mark of the Beast we need to keep in mind that the central Jewish text that was recited twice daily by believing Jews begins: “‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one . . .” and concludes, speaking of God's commandments, “And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes."
It is reasonably clear, that to the first-century Jewish context- to whom the Book of Revelation what addressed, it is saying that someday the world would oppose the commandment to worship the God of Israel only, not that they would all undergo a medical procedure that will insert a chip under the human skin.For Jewish followers of Jesus and their children in the first century an issue of great concern was precisely the limits of this commandment in Deuteronomy 6:4. The basic question was: Is it possible to outwardly honor some Roman deities while maintaining the worship of Israel's God in your heart? This policy would insure the economic survival and prosperity under the watchful eye of the Roman authorities. But the Book of Revelation is unmoving in advocating an Israelite, Anti-Roman position where only worship of the One God of Israel was permitted.
Why is it a number?
Today gematria is well-known as a Jewish interpretive method that assigns numerical values of Hebrew letters to words, phrases and/or sentences. Then, by adding them together, seeks to determine their deeper meaning. Sometimes that connection is farfetched, but sometimes it is quite clear. But was Gematria also present the New Testament? The answer is a clear "yes".In Matthew’s genealogy, which shows that Jesus was a descendent of King David, we read “Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteenfrom the exile to the Messiah.” (Mathew 1:17). (דוד) is 14. ו + (4)דו + (4)דIn the Book of Revelation, (Rev. 13:18) we read, “Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man;;
and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.”Although the beast of the book of Revelation is almost certainly not limited to the first-century, near the time of writing of the Book of Revelation, there was a blood-thirsty persecutor of the early Christ-followers - Nero Caesar, whose name, if counted in Hebrew, had a numeric value of 666. Interestingly, according to tradition, both Peter and Paul were martyred during his reign. It is likely that Nero Caesar was a symbolic figure of all future government-sponsored persecutions. If the original identification of the beast as Emperor Nero is correct, this explains why some early manuscripts of the Book of Revelation have 616 instead of 666 as the number of the beast. 616 is the numeric value of Emperor Nero's name calculated from Latin.
As it is generally accepted that the New Testament was written in
Greek, and that God is called by the first and last letters of the
Greek alphabet (alpha
and omega, Revelation 22.-)3), it
is not reasonable to work with the Greek language and

What is an
Anti-Christ?
The Greek word Christ is
often used instead of the Hebrew word
Messiah. Both words
can be translated “the anointed one.”
According to the Bible, when God chose a man to become king, he was
anointed by the High Priest (I Sam. 10: 1, I Sam 18: 1, 13).
The word messiah specifically refers to a king that many Jews believed God was going to send them. This king (or messiah, Daniel 9:26-26) was to be a descendent of King David and was to re-establish the great Jewish Empire that had been set up so the days of King David and King Solomon. Since the Messiah’s empire was divinely decreed, the Jews called it The Kingdom of God.
Many Jews resented this change and began to refer to the non-Jewish ruler of Palastine as the false-messiah because he was reigning in place of the true messiah. They called him the anti-messiah or, in Greek, the Anti-Christ.The Roman Emperor who supported the anti-Christ on the Jewish throne was secretly called by the Jews “the Beast”.
Revelation 13:7 tells us that no man might buy or sell unless he had the “mark’ of the beast in the right hand or forehead. In those days, one had to get royal permission to engage in almost any form of commerce.
